I don't feel like the same Cathy that the started in January 2009. I had one amazingly crazy hard whirlwind this past year, let's just call it El Nino of emotions in '09, and for this I am thankful. I'm thankful to know how great it is to have an understanding and appreciative husband. Andrew is my rockstar. I'm thankful to be able to help raise Isla. I love having her in my life. She is the center of my universe. I can't believe she is 3 months old today. I'm thankful for my sweet little puppy. He is the most lovable guy and loves me just the way that I am. I'm thankful to have a my family, we had a couple instances this year that makes me be thankful for their good health. I'm thankful that I matter in their life, to know that they care about me and I have an amazing support system. I've been recently reminded that many people out there don't have a support system and there is noone out that to care what happens in their life. I am THANKFUL to have have family and friends who matter in my life!
I hope you all have an amazing Thanksgiving!

Isla loves baths. When she was a new born she screamed during bath time and I dreaded giving her a bath, but the last two months she loves them. She sits and kicks the whole entire time. This little girl loves to be naked and gets so smiley when we change her or give her baths.
Tummy time is still not her favorite past time, Isla will last about 3 minutes then she let's me know she is done.
The power of the kiddopotamus.
She was extra smiley Wednesday, so Isla let me take some photos. Sharyl bought her one of the hats with a giant flower on it. She looks adorable.
Is she wearing the flower or is the flower wearing her? Not sure, but she is one cute baby!

Zurburts!
For the first time I gave Isla a zurburt on her tummy, her eyes got huge and then she grabbed my hair and wouldn't let go. Andrew was laughing pretty hard, but when I said "I guess Isla hates zurburts,"
Andrew responded "What the .... is a zurburt?"

I believe every grandchild in our family has a picture of them sleeping on grandpa chest. The minute I walk into the door, dad takes Isla away from me. He wants to do all the feeding, burping and putting them to sleep. He really is the world's greatest Grandpa!
This picture is extra special, because my mom and dad decided to do on a 6 week road trip with their friends. Well, two weeks into their trip I get a call from my sister, Sharyl, saying daddy is in a hospital in New Hampshire with a pulmonary embolism in his right lung and has pneumonia. It was pretty scary for us kids, It's hard to just sit around and do nothing, but we were told we didn't need to fly out to see him. After patiently waiting and getting daily updates, dad recovered enough to fly to SLC, and me and Isla personally drove dad home. The picture was taken right when we got home.
BTW- if you are reading this and live in Malad, if you happen to see sweet Merrill doing anything strenuous, tell him you are going to tell his kids. He won't settle down and rest. He forgets he is 71, and that his body doesn't recover like it did when he was in his 30's. Puh- he wonders why all his kids are stubborn! I wonder where we get it from...?

We had Isla's 2 month check last week. She is weighing in at a whooping 8 ponds 14 ounces and 22 inches. She is in the 10 percentile for her weight and 35th in her height. She is still my little peanut and I'm loving it. We are still having to buy newborn diapers, and she barely fits into half of her 0-3 month clothes. She loves to be snuggled in her kiddopotamus and sucking on her binky. This is very distressing to Andrew, he has visions of Isla at her high school graduation still sucking on her pacifier. I have told him that the majority of my nephews and nieces had binkies, and they all got rid of them by 1. So hopefully that pacifies him.
Here is Isla on her way to her doctor's appointment.
It seems things have finally settled down at our house, we are finally into a schedule. Andrew and I have been getting 4-6 hours of sleep at night and feeling pretty lucky. We take turns with the night feeding, but there have been times when it's the others turn, some negotiations start up. I believe one time after Isla had been up for 3 hours and she was letting me know that she didn't appreciate the way I was handling the situation. I informed Andrew I would give him a million dollars if he would take over. He is still waiting for that pay out.
Isla was Minnie Mouse for Halloween, the hat and the tutu lasted about an hour, after that she just looked like she was ready to rob a bank.
Our friends, Lynette and TJ, hosted the Halloween party this year. With a new baby, Drew and I weren't up to throwing one. I have to admit the no party clean up the next day was extremely nice...
Danny and Sandy
I love that Andrew is wearing my dad's lettermen sweater.
Playing dress-up
Once a month, Jake comes over to spend some special time with Isla. Jake is Isla's biological half brother. He is a very sweet nine year old boy, who spend nine months bonding with Isla. He feels very protective over her. Jake wants to make sure she is in a good home and that we are taking the best care of Isla. This is a great picture of Jake, Isla and Terrie.

When Isla was still in the hospital she could hold her head for about 20 seconds. The day we brought her home she was rolling from side to side. NOW my baby is rolling over! A week and half ago she did it, but I thought it might be a fluke. Then yesterday she did it for the fifth time. I can't believe it.

The other night when I was up for Isla's 2:00 am feeding, I was trying to figure out the best burping method. As I was maneuvering her around I started thinking about the glass Heinz 57 bottle. I always struggle with it in the restaurants, I have a tendency to hold it upside down and shake the holy living daylights out of it. Andrew has showed me if you have a little patience and hold it at 45 degrees, tap on the embossed 57, the ketchup miraculously comes out. So I've been on a quest to find Isla's 57 spot. She is a wee bit stingy with that 2nd and 3rd burp and if we don't get it out, mayhem begins. I think I have figured it out. One has to be standing, bouncing just a little, Isla needs to be on the shoulder with both of her arms over your shoulder. You need to alternate between rubbing counter clockwise from her lower back to the top and patting. Here is the kicker, you have to ask her to burp. It really works! So 2:00 am feeding not so bad now I know Isla's 57 spot.

Before Isla was born I had the goal of posting everyday... HA! She is 4 weeks today and I have yet to write anything down. As a matter of fact, I can't believe it's been 4 whole weeks already. Where did time go? I have a feeling I will be saying that alot! So a quick monthly recap.
We got to bring Isla home on the 29th of August.
Her Aunt: Kim, Janel and Sharyl surprised us and decorated our home to welcome home my little peanut.
We had her first of many photo shoots on Sunday with my sweet friend Angelique.
We have also had some great "learning" times in our house. Andrew has been amazing. He is involved with everything: Changing diapers, nighttime feedings, researching, you name it, he's wants to be in the middle of it. Isla is the first newborn he has been around and you would never know it. There have been a few cute instances that his lack of newborn knowledge has shown. Andrew likes to observe others and learn things on his own.So he came downstairs one day and said "Hey Cath you know the ointment stuff?""yea"
"well, where exactly do you put it?"
"ahhhhh on her pikachu and stuff" (Just so you know pikachu is not a medical term, so when you say it to the nurse she looks at you like you're nuts)
" Oh... I've been putting it everywhere that the diaper touches her and not putting it there. I mean it says diaper rash, so isn't it from the diaper. "
"Huh, I was wondering how we were going through the tube so fast"
On Week 2, my mom came to stay the week and help me out. We had a very easy first week, but by the 2nd week my baby was possessed. Poor sweet girl was having major digestive issues and wow does she have some lungs on her. We had 3 days of constant fussy and colic, luckily we had our 2 week check and I asked the pediatrician if she performed exorcisms. She just laughed and we discussed some different formulas and supplementing her diet with infant sweet potatoes. She recommended a book On Becoming Babywise, and I love it. Isla is back to her sweet self and mom and dad are very happy.
